The origins of our institution, a pioneer in the field of conservation-restoration in Spain, can be traced back to the former Central Institute for the Restoration and Conservation of Works and Objects of Art, Archaeology, and Ethnology (now the Spanish Cultural Heritage Institute),from which it was separated in 1977 when it came under the Ministry of Education (no longer being part of the Ministry of Culture, as had been the case until then).
